Urchin Randomly Shuts Off with SIGTERM

You may notice that Urchin randomly shuts off every 10-15 minutes for no obvious reason. If your case matches the following symptoms, try the suggested solutions.

Symptoms

  • Running Urchin side-by-side with cPanel.
  • Urchin's error.log reports: [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down

Cause
cPanel attempts to monitor and rotate system logs that Urchin is touching. In order to rotate them, cPanel shuts Urchin down.

Resolution

  1. Rename /usr/local/urchin to /usr/local/urchin6.
