If you're currently a Google Analytics or Urchin 6 customer, it is very easy to track your site's usage with both products simultaneously. Depending on the code version (ga.js or urchin.js) only one additional line of code is necessary.

For ga.js
Insert the following line above pageTracker.trackPageview();:

pageTracker.setLocalRemoteServerMode();

For urchin.js
Insert the following line above urchinTracker();: _

userv=2;

What does "(other)" mean in my reports?

Have you ever seen that annoying "(other)" line in any of your reports and wonder what it means. Obviously, it's not telling you anything useful other than something is generating visits on my site, but what?! Let's take a few steps back and talk through how Urchin works.

A few times a month, we're asked "why are my stats different between Urchin and Google Analytics?" If Urchin and GA are looking at the exact same data and there's a numbers discrepancy, 95% of the time it's caused by the visitor tracking method in use.

With the release of version 6.5.00, Urchin has the ability to automatically download and process Adwords CPC data. Unfortunately, the process isn't as smooth as Google Analytics' integration with Adwords, but it's better than having to manually download Adwords data before processing.

Unbelievable! After almost 3 years of silence, we've seen four versions of Urchin 6 launched in the nine months. Urchin 6.400 was followed by 2 point releases (.01 and .02) in summer 2008, and December saw the launch of 6.5.
